White label action from Aphex Twin on Warp! “Marchromt30a Edit 2b 96” is a previously Japan-only bonus cut from the import version of Syro, and finally gets a worldwide release via this hand-stamped white-label 12″. The track kills it in typical AFX maximalist fashion with writhing electronic layers that are bursting with life – hypnotic percussion, creeping sub-bass and spiraling acid synths, all topped with vocoders and airy pads floating to the top. Flipside features an alternate mix of “Xmas,” a fresh take of another obvious Syro standout, plus the swift beats of “Marchromt38 Fast.” More proof that Richard D. James is still on top of his game. Recommended.
